For inspiration on a new autumnal look, Paco Latorre, Senior Stylist at Boots x Live True salon, shares his expert tips and must-have products to create this season's hottest hair trends. Paco is a resident stylist at Boots x Live True London salon, which launched in October 2023. The unique retail salon concept combines a shopping area showcasing Boots extensive range of premium and professional haircare with a fully functional hair salon operated by Live True’s team, allowing customers to test, trial and experience new brands and products before they buy.
Paco Latorre, Senior Stylist at Boots x Live True salon reveals the top four hair trends for Autumn/Winter 2024:
Clean Girl Slick Bun
All-in-one hair serums and oils are becoming increasingly popular, with interest in minimalist hair serum increasing by 110%[1]. This trend is driven by the desire for simplified styling routines that still offer haircare benefits, such as pre-wash nourishment or post-styling hydration. With hair oiling seeing a surge in popularity, with an 80% year-on-year increase[2], the Clean Girl Slick Bun is a popular hairstyle that exemplifies this trend.
Paco suggests: "For best results, thoroughly detangle the hair and use a soft bristled brush to sweep it back into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Twist your ponytail around its base to form a polished bun and fix into place. Before styling your bun, I suggest applying the Aveda Botanical Repair Strengthening Overnight Serum (£42) on dry hair to reduce appearance of split ends by 84% whilst adding softness and shine, or Kérastase Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale Hair Oil (£27.50) for nourishment and shine."
Texture Take Back
Reclaiming natural texture is in for autumn, celebrating the individuality of curly, coily, and wavy hair in all its glory. This natural and voluminous style embraces frizz and airy texture for an easy-going, carefree look.
Paco's how to: "For a fresh approach to styling natural curls, apply Aveda Be Curly Advanced Curl Enhancer Cream (£28) to wet hair to enhance curl definition by 89% in one application, hydrate, and boost shine. When it comes to styling, the more tousled and freer the better! So once dry, add texture, body and hold with Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray (£24).”
Biome Boosting Haircare
Healthy hair will always be in style, and this season haircare is shifting away from damaging styling techniques and towards those that reinforce hair integrity. This has led to the rise of clever styling products that boost the scalp’s microbiome to create healthier looking, more lustrous hair from root to tip.
Paco says: “Incorporate scalp microbiome-friendly products into your routine, especially after colour or heat styling. Once a week, cleanse and exfoliate the scalp to remove build-up of dirt, oils and styling products with FUL Detox Scalp Treatment (£30) before shampooing, or try LOréal Professionnel Scalp Advanced Hair Treatment (£25.20) which is enriched with Niacinamide. Then, use Aveda Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave-in Treatment (£35.50) to strengthen and repair your locks from the inside out."
Party Pull Back
The Party Pull Back is a universally flattering updo that effortlessly transitions the hair from day to night, cleverly concealing any signs of second-day hair. This versatile style works on all hair lengths and textures, making it perfect for a chic, low-maintenance style.
Paco recommends: "The messy bun has had a serious glow-up in the form of a chicer hairstyle that achieves a balance between polished and relaxed. To perfect this day-to-night look, start by misting the hair with OUAI Hair and Body Mist (£26) and refreshing your roots with Aveda Shampowder Dry Shampoo (£26). To get the look, gather the majority of the hair into a soft, airy bun with a hair tie, before going in with some bobby pins on loose hanging layers. Leave out a few strands to frame your face for an effortless look.”
