The Dunnes' Perfect Kitchen In 'Gone Girl'

Chic and bold, the kitchen in Gone Girl is the perfect embodiment of realistic luxury in a home setting. A single oven, warming drawer, wine fridge, and soft natural light give this room a grotto feel that just borders on the cusp of eerie, but in a cozy way.

Rosamund Pike's Amy Dunne stands center stage surrounded by a kitchen that was crafted to emulate the characer's personality - calculating, finessed, and precise when it comes to the meticulous planning and framing of her demise... and also dinner plans. The dark kitchen island is a great contrast to the light-colored walls that line the rest of the room.

  • Acting as the staging ground for Seth Rogen's potential parenthood shenanigans, the dark hardwood floors and all-white fixtures make the kitchen from Knocked Up one of the more striking kitchens seen in films since the 2000s.

With multiple dishwashers, a huge gas range with a hood, multiple ovens, two farmhouse sinks, and a great island that doubles as a breakfast area, this is everything anyone could ever ask for in a home kitchen. The white fixtures facilitate the diffusion of light, eliminating the harshness one might expect from a kitchen that's so remarkably bright on its own. Above all, this kitchen feels approachable and inviting to anyone whomight cross its path.

A Bewitching Breakfast Nook In 'Practical Magic'

Practical Magic? Practical kitchen. The Owens sisters' hearth-style kitchen is a tangerine dream of a breakfast area - and incredibly pleasing to look at. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman's characters literally work their magic in and about the kitchen (and let's not forget about the midnight margaritas). The tiled hearth is home to an AGA range that basically screams at viewers to come and cook with them.

The continuation of the backsplash up and all along the length of the stove wall and up to the windows offers a dramatic, easy-to-clean statement for any home cook looking to brew up something magical. The large kitchen table serves as both a dining and work surface and seems to be showing years of loving wear and tear.

Below The Decks At 'Downton Abbey'

In Downton Abbey, we see the likes of Mrs. Patmore and Daisy scuttling about a fairly large kitchen that's somewhere between a commercial kitchen and something one might find in an open concept layout. The large double-length table is a perfect work surface for pastry, butchery, and plating;however, with electricity being just a recent addition, the kitchen itself might lag behind its modern equivalents when it comes to the speed and readiness of chilled items.

An interesting feature is the stove and oven setup. This type of device operates by radiating and storing heat that comes from a gas line or radiator located elsewhere in the house, rather than producing flames directly from a gas line. This is a much more common feature in European countries, but it hasbeen made more popular thanks to companies like AGA.

The Dreamy Kitchen In The Hamptons From 'Something's Gotta Give'

Diane Keaton's kitchen in Something's Gotta Giveis her character's love letter to herself. She wanted a house filled with life and love and she certainly got it.

Hardwood floors, black countertops, and white cabinetry are this kitchen's signatures, collectively establishing a sense of place and purpose within the heart of the home. A six-burner commercial gas range with dual ovens would make any home cook salivate, and the multiple kitchen islands and ample counter space make this kitchen a dream to entertain in. The dark fixtures on the cabinets are a perfect accent to the dark countertops, and the full subway tile backsplash against the stoveadds a much-needed source of brightness by diffusing the ambient light.
