What I Loved
I’m always a fan ofWest Elm‘s sofas,loveseats, andsleeper sectionals. But this is the firstsofa bedfrom them I’ve tried and I have to say, it was my personal favorite. I loved its overall style, with its clean lines andsquare arms. Plus itsfoam cushionswere soft enough forloungingand sleeping even without pulling out the mattress.
The sofa itself has incrediblyplushseats. And thepull-outmattress was easy to operate, and once it was set up, it felt almost like sleeping in a regular mattress. I think it would work perfectly in anyliving roomor even ahome officethat has to double as a guest bedroom.
All in all, it was the most stylish andcomfortablesleeper sofaI tried. Plus, it was one of the few that I saw and tested that was available in aqueen-sizemattress.
What I Didn’t Love
I loved all of the fabric options. However, I’m not a fan of the 6-week minimum shipping times. Since these are built to order, you can expect fairly lengthy lead times for this model.

What I Loved
In terms of overall design, this was likely the most innovative and modernsofa bedI tried out. At first glance, it has the sleek, clean lines of a sofa you’d see in a commercial setting like an office or high-end hotel. However, I was impressed by how comfortable it was.
Theseat cushionsthemselves weren’t as cushy or soft asWest Elm‘s Shelter Queen, but I loved how easy it was to use thepull-outsofa. Just pull the tab at the base of theseat cushionand the mattress effortlessly folds out into a generousfull-sizemattress.
The mattress wasn’t as wide as theWest Elmsofa bed, but it was just as comfortable to sleep on. With a greatpull-outsofa mechanism and a really clean approach to design, this is definitely asofa bedI’d recommend for anymodern designlover looking for a sleek, contemporary sofa forovernight gueststhat doesn’t take up a huge footprint in yourliving space.
What I Didn’t Love

What I Loved
Of all thepull-outsofas on this list, I definitely loved the seat andback cushionson this one, which was surprising considering I wasn’t anticipating that much from anIKEAsofa compared to a few of the other brands on this list. However, I have to agree with many of the 4 and 5 star reviews. It’s a great value as far as asofa bedis concerned.
What I Didn’t Love
Assembly wasn’t as easy compared to otherIKEAsofas and sectionals I’ve put together in the past. Also, the mattress wasn’t my favorite. I definitely thought the pull-put mattress worked well enough and it was fine for just one night. However, at 4.5 inches thick, it’s definitely on the thinner end ofsofa bedmattresses. A thicker mattress, in addition to the incrediblyplushchaise, seat andback cushionswould make for an amazing and versatilesofa bed.

In terms of style and design, it resembles a widedaybedmore than it does a sofa. This is definitely one of the more uniquesleeper sofasI’ve seen. The Helvey 81″sleepersofabeddoesn’t feature apull-outmattress. The twoback cushionssimply need to be removed to use as atwin sizesofa bed.
Overall, it has a chic, minimal mid-century modern inspired silhouette with just one roll-stylearmrestthat almost looks like a largethrow pillow. And although it’s 81″ wide, it’s fairly economical when it comes to the space it takes up. That, plus its lack of apull-outsofa means it’s the bestsmall spacesofa bedin my review.
What I Didn’t Love
This honestly would have been the perfectdaybed/sofabedif theback cushionsstayed in place. Also, thehigh-density foamseat cushion/ bed is great for an impromptusleepoverbut I wouldn’t subject a guest to using it for more than one or two nights.

For an extra sleeping space in a smaller room in your house, this loveseat sofa bed by Raymour & Flanigan is a fantastic choice.
As far as quality, you can’t ask for much more. This sofa is well made, stylish, and comfortable. Not quite as plush as West Elm’s Shelter Queen, the cushions are medium firm and soften up over the first few weeks of use.
What I Didn’t Love
Some customers say they can feel the support bar as they’re laying on the mattress. Though I didn’t experience that, the mattress is a tad thin, and could benefit from a mattress topper for a bit of extra cushioning. For the price, this is no big deal.

What I Loved
Another pull-out option, this sofa is closer in size to an armchair than a sofa, so you can fit it nearly anywhere. I love the way this sofa looks – subtle, inviting, and classic.
I was surprised by how firm this couch is, especially with the down-fill. The quality is impeccable, and customers online fave about owning their sofas for a decade or more.
Another plus for pet owners–I don’t have any pets, but cat and dog owners online say the microfiber fabric holds up for years against even the most persistent pets.
What I Didn’t Love
The innerspring mattress is a bit firm, but a mattress topper should fix that. You can also opt for the memory foam mattress. Other than that, I have no complaints.

What I Loved
This couch is both relaxed and classic, with deep enough seats to curl up and snuggle in, even if you skew taller. It also does not look like a sofa bed, which is always something to appreciate.
The pillows are made of down, and the innerspring mattress is comfortable enough, though I’d definitely recommend adding a foam topper for some extra cushioning. Plus, the slipcover is easy to slip on and off for easy washing and spot cleaning.
Delivery was easy, and I received my couch a couple days ahead of schedule, which seems to be the norm scrolling customer reviews online.
What I Didn’t Love
There are mixed reviews about how the cushions hold up over time– some say the cushions start sagging after a few years, others say that couch looks like new even after everyday use. Also – the slipcover and skirt does have to be readjusted more frequently than I’d like.

The couch is firm and comfortable, and the foam mattress is comfortable on its own, no mattress topper required.
What I Didn’t Love
I have no complaints about this piece–it is well made, beautiful, and comfortable both as a couch and a bed.

What I Loved
The Greta is one ofUrban Outfitters‘ best reviewed sofas. At $899, it’s a great, price-conscious alternative to Ligne Roset’s iconic Togo convertible modularsectional sofa. And although there’s just oneupholsteryoption, I loved the recycled leather. Recycled materials are seldom used inupholstery, but given how much fabric is wasted in the textile industry, it’s nice to see a company offer furniture that’s at least somewhat sustainable.
Thisconvertiblesofabed itself is fairly comfortable when folded up. Having sat on an actual Ligne Roset Togo module at a showroom once, it almost felt like the real deal. When it’s folded down like afuton, it’s a fairly comfortable twin XL sizesofabed. All in all, another great space-savingsleeper sofaif you prefer a fold-down leather alternative to AllModern’s HelveySofa Bed.
What I Didn’t Love
At just above a foot with theback cushionfolded down, thisleathersofabedfeels a little low to the ground. If you prefer a lower bed, this shouldn’t be an issue. However, if you prefer asofa bedthat’s bout the height a regular mattress, then this one probably isn’t for you.
Also, I personally didn’t observe any quality issues during the test. However, some negative reviews highlighted some hit-or-miss product quality (e.g. squeaking whenever the sofa is folded down, the overall frame feeling flimsy, etc.)

What I Loved
For an extra sleeping space on a budget, you can’t go wrong with a futon, and this one is particularly great for the price.
This is a recliner sofa, and you can adjust it to three different angles before it lays totally flat. When flat, the futon is about the size of a twin mattress. The foam filling provides just the right amount of cushioning for good night’s sleep, and is comfortable enough to enjoy for hours reading or working during the day as well.
What I Didn’t Love
I do wish the sofa was just a tad bigger, as the sleeping space it provides is quite small. All in all though, this is a fantastic piece for the price.

As you saw from the last two models on this list, the line betweensleeper sofasandfutonstends to be pretty thin, especially for multi-purpose designs that don’t includepull-outmattresses.
From personal experience, I wouldn’t ascribe a value judgment in saying eithersleeper sofasare inherently better thanfutons. I think they’re just classifications of sofas. The key thing I would note is that generally,sleeper sofastend to be a bit larger (configured like a classic three seater sofa with afold outmattress) whilefutonstend to be more likeloveseatsthat double as full or twin xl guest beds.
Make Sure You Get the Right Mattress
Mostsleeper sofastend to come standard withinnerspring mattresses. These are perfectly fine as long as they’re constructed well with springs that don’t dig into your back. However, if you want something moreplushandhigh-qualityfor your guests to enjoy, consider asleepersofabedwith a high-densitymemory foam mattress. They tend to be pricier than the averagepull-outsofa, but they’re definitely worth the investment. If amemory foam mattressisn’t an option, you can always buy amattresstopperfor yoursofa bed. Just make sure it’s the right size!
